How to Close and Permanently Delete Your Amazon Account

Amazon lets you request account closure yourself from its Close Your Amazon Account page — you no longer have to argue with customer service. Closing the account deletes your order history, reviews, Kindle library, Prime Video purchases and any unused gift card balance, and it applies to Amazon stores worldwide that use the same login.
Because closure is permanent, it pays to cancel subscriptions, spend or move balances and download what you need first. If you only want to stop paying, cancelling Prime is enough and keeps your account intact.

Before you delete
- Cancel Prime and other subscriptions (Kindle Unlimited, Audible, Subscribe & Save, channel add-ons).
- Use up gift card and promotional balances — they are forfeited when the account closes.
- Wait for open orders, returns and refunds to finish.
- Request your data under Account > Data and privacy > Request your data if you want order history.
- Check AWS, Seller Central and Audible — business and AWS accounts have their own closure processes.
How to close your Amazon account
- Sign in to Amazon on the web and open Account & Lists > Your Account.
- Under Data and privacy, choose Close Your Amazon Account (you can also search the Help pages for “close your account”).
- Read the list of services and content that will be lost, then pick a reason from the drop-down menu.
- Tick the box confirming you understand that closure is permanent and click Close my account.
- Open the email Amazon sends and click the confirmation link. The link expires after a few days, so act promptly — the request is cancelled if you don’t confirm.

What happens after you close your Amazon account
Once confirmed, you can no longer sign in to Amazon or any service that uses the same login, such as Kindle, Audible (if linked), Prime Video, Amazon Photos and Alexa features tied to the account. Some records are kept where the law requires it, for example tax and transaction records.
- Your reviews and questions are removed from product pages.
- Any remaining gift card balance cannot be refunded or transferred.
- You can later register a new account with the same email address, but nothing carries over.
Alternatives to closing your account
If you mainly want fewer emails or less tracking, turn off marketing emails in Communication preferences, clear your browsing history in Your Account, and remove saved cards. Cancelling Prime stops billing without deleting anything.
