How to Delete Your Telegram Account in 2025

Instructions to permanently delete your Telegram account and understand the consequences of automatic account deletion after inactivity.

Before you begin

Time required: ~5 minutes
Data loss: All messages, contacts, groups and cloud data will be permanently removed
Grace period: No immediate grace period once you confirm deletion; accounts are also auto‑deleted after months of inactivity

Go to the Telegram deactivation page at my.telegram.org/delete.
Enter your phone number with the correct international code and click Next.
Check your Telegram app for a confirmation code, enter it on the website and click Sign In.
Click Delete My Account, choose a reason if asked and confirm to permanently remove your account.

Does deleting my account remove all my messages?

Yes. Your entire message history, contacts and cloud data will be deleted and cannot be recovered.

What if I don’t use Telegram for a long time?

Telegram automatically deletes accounts after a period of inactivity (default 6 months). You can adjust this duration in Settings.

Can I create a new account after deleting?

Yes, but you’ll need to register again with your phone number. Previous chats and groups will not be restored.
