How to Close and Delete Your Cash App Account

Cash App lets you close your account from inside the app. Before you do, move every dollar out: your cash balance, any stocks and bitcoin, and any pending payments. Once the account is closed you lose access to your $Cashtag, Cash Card and in-app transaction history.

Closing the account does not erase records Cash App must keep for legal and financial reasons, but it stops all use of the account.

Before you delete

Cash out your full balance to your linked bank account.
Sell stocks and bitcoin or transfer bitcoin to another wallet, then cash out the proceeds.
Download statements from Activity or your monthly statements for tax records.
Update direct deposits and recurring payments that use your Cash App account and routing number.
Tell regular contacts your $Cashtag will stop working.

How to close your Cash App account

Open Cash App and tap your profile icon.
Tap Support (sometimes shown as Help), then choose Something else.
Select Account Settings, then Close my Cash App Account.
Tap Confirm and follow the prompts. If there is still a balance, Cash App will ask you to cash it out first.

What happens after closing

Your $Cashtag and Cash Card are deactivated and you can no longer send or receive money. Payments sent to your old $Cashtag will fail. Keep your own copies of statements: once closed, you cannot open the app to look up past transactions.
