How to Delete Your X (Formerly Twitter) Account

X has no instant delete button. You deactivate your account, and if you don’t log in for 30 days, X permanently deletes it. Logging in during that period reactivates the account.

Before you go, consider changing your username so your old handle can’t be associated with your history, and download your archive.

Before you delete

• Download your archive: Settings > Your account > Download an archive of your data.
• Cancel X Premium (in the app store if you subscribed there).
• Change your username first if you want to free your handle or keep it from being reused.
• Unlink “Sign in with X” on other sites.

How to delete your X account

1. On x.com click More (or your profile icon in the app), then Settings and privacy.
2. Open Your account and choose Deactivate your account.
3. Read the information and click Deactivate.
4. Enter your password and confirm.
5. Stay logged out for 30 days; X then permanently deletes the account.

Menus change often. If a button has moved, use the search box in the app's settings or the official help link above.

What remains after deletion

Posts quoted or screenshotted by others, and content indexed by search engines, may still be visible for a time. Use search engines’ outdated-content removal tools for cached pages.
